A 5-year-old’s sweet request for a haircut so he could look just like his friend has warmed the hearts of thousands on the internet and showcased the power of friendship.
When Lydia Rosebush told her son Jax that he would need to a haircut ahead of his birthday this week, he responded that “he wanted his head shaved really short so he could look like his friend Reddy,” Rosebush wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
Rosebush accompanied the post with a photo of Jax and Reddy side-by-side at their school’s Christmas party in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I’m sure you all see the resemblance,” she wrote.

Rosebush said that Jax thought it would be “so hilarious” to confuse the boys’ teacher with his new haircut.
“He said he couldn’t wait to go to school on Monday with his hair like Reddy’s so that his teacher wouldn’t be able to tell them apart,” Rosebush said.
Rosebush said her son’s surprising request is a good lesson for anyone to heed and that when it comes to friendship, skin color does not matter.
“If this isn’t proof that hate and prejudice is something that is taught I don’t know what is,” she said. “The only difference Jax sees in the two of them is their hair.”
As of Friday, the post had been liked almost 150,000 times and shared almost 80,000 times.
“It’s about friend and the love and innocence of children,” Rosebush told WABC of her now viral post.
