On Tuesday a U.S. Navy SEAL was killed in the Iraqi town of Telskuf after ISIS launched a major assault and broke through the Peshmerga frontline. It was initially reported the SEAL was killed while serving in an ‘advisory’ role but as more details, including video of the assault, begin to emerge it is clear the SEAL died as part of a valiant counter-assault to take back control of the ancient Christian town.

ISIS famously tore through Telskuf back in the summer of 2014 and began destroying ancient Christian churches founded thousands of years ago. They posted propaganda videos and celebrated the end of Christianity. Peshmerga recaptured the city a few weeks later and have been defending it ever since.
The assault this week comes as allied forces begin closing in on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul. The surprise assault by ISIS was over in less than a day and saw most of the terrorists killed. Peshmerga and coalition forces once again have control of the city.
Here is one of the armored vehicles an ISIS suicide bomber used during the assault.
As you can see, not much left.
