It’s a sight all too familiar these days. A fight breaks out, and then immediately so do all the cellphones to record the action. It’s a sad spectacle, but one so popular entire brands have been built around featuring the ‘best’ fights caught on tape.
This video starts out like all the rest.
Two teens start to throw-down in the middle of the street over some unknown dispute, and all of their ‘friends’ are recording the brawl.
There’s yelling, swearing, the usual fare. But about 15 seconds into the video, something very unusual happens. A grown man walks up, steps directly into the middle of the fight and starts calling everyone out – especially the ones filming with their phones.
“Y’all fools. Everybody recording on the phone, real cowards. Record that, too.”
The fight stops immediately. It’s unclear if they know this man or not – but right away there’s a high level of respect. No one even thinks of talking back to him.
The man proceeds to point out to the two combatants that all of their so-called friends are standing on the sidelines, filming them and laughing. This clearly resonates with them as they ponder what he’s saying. He advises them not to fall for the devil’s schemes.
“Look at the trick of the devil. Who ill-advised you? Who ill-advised you?”
He goes on to point out the lunacy of what they’re doing – fighting in the middle of the street for reasons they barely even understand.
Some of the kids filming continue to laugh, and he continues to call them out. “Don’t make your parents look like this. I know where you’re from. You’re mom worked hard to get where they’re at. Your dad’s doing life. Think it’s a game out here? It’s real out here bro. Stop playing games.”
He then proceeds to make the two shake hands, and says if they don’t they’ll have a problem with him.
“Y’all don’t shake hands I’m not leaving.”
They do it half-heartedly, and he doesn’t accept it. Like a parent scolding their children and making them make it right, he persists. “They want y’all to be enemies. Shake hands!”
They finally shake hands and the fight appears to dissipate.
What an awesome example of someone who truly cares about his community and the young people in it. This man needs to be praised – and there needs to be more like him!
