Got a case of the Mondays?
Shannen Doherty is teaching the world through social media the power of positivity, even through her darkest hour.
The former 90210 star used her Instagram to showcase her fight against Breast Cancer, one that she has been waging since 2015.
The first video is of Doherty getting a needle placed in her medically implanted port, a device that acts like an artificial vein, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center said.
The purpose behind it is to make it easier for a person’s healthcare team to access blood vessels for medication and tests, the site said.
So, in this quick video posted by the star herself, she said, “Chemo day. I’m lucky to have such a great team!!! Dawn has been taking care of me from pretty much the start along with Dr Piro, Joyce, Rosie, Kathy and everyone else at the clinic. I don’t enjoy chemo day or needle like things in my chest or my port but, at least with this crew it’s not so bad. Make sure you connect not only with your oncologist but also with the person administering your chemo. Thank you to The Angeles Clinic.”
Next comes up a photograph of how Doherty feels during treatment. She says,”this picture of me as a kid captures my current state. #chemoday #thumbsucker #currentmood.”
Now the after shot, where the “Charmed” show actress explains her look, including the puffiness and red face as well as tired and nauseous.
These treatments tend to leave patients incredibly fatigued, but Doherty refuses to let that keep her down.
“Let me tell ya…. shaking your booty is hard work with my Neda who’s been helping me move and get toxins out. Yes I was tired, yes I wanted to be in bed but I went and moved and felt way better. Any exercise during illness is good. We can do it!!! #beastmode with @jammalibu #fightlikeagirl #warrior”
Finally, Doherty said, “And sometimes you just want to collapse on the couch and watch tv with your mom. I love you mom. @themamarosa #fightlikeagirl”
The outpouring of kinship and amor has included some faithful Insta followers like stephcatperkins who said, “God bless!! My mom helped me get through my cancer battle as well! You got this :).”
