World renowned boxer and Philippine politician Manny Pacquiao is giving back to his home country in a big way – by paying for the construction of more than 1,000 homes to be built for the poor.

A large portion of the millions of dollars it cost to launch the project derived from Pacquiao’s May 2015 fight against Floyd Mayweather, dubbed “The Fight of the Century.” The homes will be built in the Sarangani Province.

“I will never forget where I came from,” Pacquiao wrote on Twitter. “I thank God for allowing me to help other people.”

Pacquiao, a devout Catholic who is vocal of his faith on social media, often posts photos of his family dressed in their Sunday best as they head to church.

Pacquiao is currently serving a six-year term as a senator in the Philippines and was the second-highest paid athlete in 2015. He plans on continuing to build more homes for the needy in the future.
