The more technology advances the more we’re able to do independently. A new app called “Shell” may be one of the coolest examples of this you’ve seen in a long time, especially if you’re a mother-to-be.

Mashable.com explains, “The app ’Shell’ is free and lets users listen, record and share their unborn baby’s heartbeat. While the app is a new addition to the pregnancy experience, it should not replace doctor visits or regular ultrasounds.”

Take a look:

Empowering women to connect with the life growing inside them — and share it — at any time is a pretty powerful tool. A tool that could continue to potentially shape, or possibly reshape, public opinion, like former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino pointed out on Twitter.

Technological advances continue to amaze…and to shape public opinion on important issues. Like life. https://t.co/QiBwfOJBuw

The Bellabeat app’s website leads with the catchphrase, “Love at first sound,” describing their app as, “a safe, non-invasive and completely natural way of listening to your baby’s heartbeat. Get to know your little one and share the excitement with those you love. No waves in. Just sound out.”
