It’s every kids dream to get free reign at the toy store. Retired wide receiver Andre Johnson just gave some kids from the area exactly that chance – but there was a catch. They only had 80 seconds at a local Houston Toys “R” Us to grab as many toys as their heart desires, a time frame selected in honor of the former player’s number.
How much damage could they do in just over a minute? Enough to rack up roughly a $20,000 bill. But it’s all for a good cause – and Johnson is happy to pay it. The kids were participating through the Department of Family Services in the Houston area. Johnson spent most of his career playing for the Houston Texans.
Johnson started the tradition while he still played for the Texans, and he’s been keeping up his Christmas shopping spree scheme ever since.

As of last week, the Facebook share had received over 12,000 shares and states, “Andre Johnson does it again! $19,144.58 spent on toys for kids in need in Houston this morning. Love this. Even in retirement…he’s still giving back. Love it.”

Johnson’s mother said to with tears in her eyes according to KHOU, a Houston based television station that, “this here is what my heart makes so warm.”
“People are so grateful, so appreciative of the things that he does. And I have asked, ‘How can one city love a person so much?’ It just made my heart feel good.”
