It’s one of those scenarios that’s every parents worst nightmare. You leave the kids alone for a couple of minutes and something terrible happens.
That’s exactly what happened to Kayli Shoff, mother of the twin 2-year-old boys in a video showing the adventurous lads climbing on their dresser only to have it fall over on top of them. One of the young boys is trapped, while the other appears concerned but a bit confused.
After poking around for a few moments trying to figure out exactly what to do, the free finally realizes the best course of action is to try and lift the dresser near where his brother is trapped. He gives it a few lifts before final surveys the situation, then manages to push the dresser off of his trapped brother and set him free.
Given the boys are just two years old, it was certainly a miracle that he even realized the danger and took positive action to end the threat. Then, on top of that, to be able to find the strength to move the toppled dresser off his brother to safety only added to the miracle.
Neither boy was hurt.
The parents posted the video in hopes of raising awareness about anchoring dressers and other large pieces of furniture, especially for those who have young children.
Every parent knows just how impossible it is to monitor your children every waking moment of the day. But that’s not stopping the perfect parents of the internet from spewing some sadly misplaced righteous indignation.
“Who the hell leaves children that young all alone???” was the battle cry of one such perfect parent. Another chimed in with “Fair play to the young man, but where are the parents???” to which the first reply was “yeap… screaming for almost a minute and nobody came to check it…”
While it is indeed possible the parents were being negligent, the most likely scenario is the parents either momentarily stepped away or the kids had just woke up in the morning and started exploring.
People would do better to be grateful both boys came out of this incident unscathed, instead of judging before all of the facts are known.
Kudos to the heroic young man who clearly realized the danger his brother was in danger – no small feat for a two-year-old!
