In a sit-down interview with CBN News chief political correspondent David Brody, President Donald Trump said he now needs God more than ever, as he grapples with tough and life-altering domestic and international decisions.

Brody asked Trump how his “spiritual journey” has been, and whether the commander-in-chief now feels the need to pray more following his ascension to the White House.

“Well, I’ll tell you what. I’ve always felt the need to pray. And you know that,” Trump responded, “So, I would say that the office is so powerful that you need God even more, because your decisions are no longer, ‘Gee, I’m going to build a building in New York, or I’m going to do this.’ These are questions of massive life and death, even with regard to health care.”

Trump said he realizes the gravity of the decisions he’s making, citing health care to explain that the intent of policy-making is to help people to secure and establish “better lives.”

“You realize these decisions are all so important,” he said. “There’s almost not a decision that you make when you’re sitting in this position that isn’t a really life-altering position. So, God comes in even more so.”

It’s no secret that Trump’s Christian faith has been a point of discussion and debate over the past year, with longtime friends like Paula White, pastor of New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, Florida, saying Trump has long been a believer.

But while it’s well-documented that he grew up a Presbyterian, there have been a number of flubs along the campaign trail, including a reference to “Two Corinthians” and an accidental move in which he nearly placed cash in a communion plate, as Deseret News reported.

And, as the New York Times framed it, “During the campaign, Mr. Trump seemed to demonstrate little fluency with the language of the religious right, even as he courted its support.”

He also frequently exhibited behavior unbecoming of the Christian ethos, and often appeared unrepentant about it. Read more about Trump’s faith here.
