In response to the post social media has shared lots of love.

Years ago, the romantic drama won the hearts of teeny boppers across the country as they watched the pastor’s daughter Jamie Sullivan a character played by Mandy Moore fall in love with the town’s bad boy, Landon Carter while she was dying from cancer.

It was one of the first teen dramas that many young adults watched that dealt with the issue of cancer and death. Cancer kills an estimated 564,800 Americans a year, according to Thomara Latimer Cancer Foundation, a group focused on helping families deal with a cancer diagnosis.

The diagnosis and even the death of a loved one from cancer is a difficult topic to discuss.

The National Cancer Institute provides a list of suggestions when speaking about or to a family member with cancer, a subject that was briefly addressed in the film “A Walk to Remember” and one that is multilayered and emotional.

If you or someone you know is struggling from the loss of a loved one, check on CBN’s story on living through grief, a difficult emotion to process.
