The horrific images of 21 Egyptian Christians being led to slaughter by ISIS members on a sandy Libyan beach shocked the world back in February 2015

And now, more than two years after the brave men were martyred for their faith, their family members are speaking out.

Christian group Focus on the Family’s Middle East office in Cairo, Egypt, has been helping the families of those men since their tragic murders, with Jim Daly, the organization’s president, recently providing an update on their wives and children.

According to Focus on the family, the families “still live in the condolences of the Holy Spirit” and stand strong by their Christian faith — the same faith the men boldly displayed when they refused to abandon Jesus even as they faced certain death.

“While we have been visiting the families regularly we met with some of the wives of the martyrs and asked them about their kids and how they live right now, a common answer was, ‘Our kids in their new nice private school have been so proud of their fathers among their friends and they have worked hard to match with studying the new curriculums to stay up to that new level of education,'” read a statement from Focus on the Family’s Middle Eastern office.

Of course, losing their loved ones hasn’t been easy. One of the wives of the martyrs added that she sometimes goes to a room in her home where she has a picture of her husband and prays to God for strength.

“I feel this prayer gives me strength and God is answering my prayers,” she said.

As it turns out, many of the Christian men’s families have also sought to reach out to victims of more recent terror attacks to “give condolences” and to show how God has strengthened them through their own trials and pain.
