Laughs abounded when comedian Jay Leno recently caught up with former President George W. Bush on Bush’s massive Texas ranch. The two talked politics, trucks and plenty more.

It all unfolded on a recent episode of Leno’s CNBC show, “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which featured Bush driving Leno around his 1,600-acre Dallas ranch as the two laughed, bantered and, at brief moments, got serious.

Perhaps the most fascinating point of discussion surrounded the Bush family’s surprising relationship with former President Bill Clinton.

Despite being Republicans, both Bush and his father — George H.W. Bush — are close friends with Clinton.

“My dad’s relationship with Clinton is so heartwarming,” Bush said, noting that the relationship, in light of the difference in party and ideology, sometimes stuns people. “Bill and I, we get along well and have a lot of fun. And it surprises people.”

Watch Leno and Bush at the 3-minute mark below:

Earlier, the segment opened with Bush pulling up to Leno, who was standing on the side of the road. The president quipped, “Hey, did anyone ever tell you you look like Jay Leno?”

As the conversation inside the car forged on, Bush told Leno that he hasn’t driven on a public road in decades and that he, instead, can generally only use his truck inside the ranch property.

“I have not driven on a road since ’93,” Bush admitted.

The former commander-in-chief also revealed that a long list of dignitaries and heads of state met with him on the ranch property when he was president, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It’s a statement of friendship,” he said of his past decision to host these leaders on his personal property. “I think it helps them when they go home to say, ‘I met with old Bush on his ranch.'”
