During her 15 years as a UPS driver, California resident Katie Newhouser has made two special friends.

Tina first met Tina and Leo the pit bull and his owner, Tina, along her delivery route in Rancho Cucamonga.

Leo took to Tina almost immediately, she told PupJournal earlier this month.

“He would hear my truck come into the condo complex and start barking and scratching at the door to come down to the truck,” Newhouser said. “He would love to come into the truck and go into the back to look around.”

When Newhouser learned that Tina had died, she offered to foster Leo, even though already has three dos of her own.

When Leo first went to live with Newhouser, she knew he missed his owner. Tina’s son couldn’t adopt him because he serves overseas with the Marines.

“He would whine at night before he would fall asleep,” she said. “It was heartbreaking, really. He still does every once in a while. I know he misses her.”

It didn’t take long for Leo to become a permanent part of Newhouser’s brood. He is getting adjusted to his new life and loves running around to Newhouser’s other dogs.
