A simple photo snapped by a Christian pastor while he was taking his kids out for ice cream on Monday has gone viral — and for all the right reasons.

Pastor Brent Kelley, 34, was at a Sonic in Franklin, Tennessee, when he noticed a sweet scene unfolding inside of a nearby car: An elderly man tenderly feeding his wife some ice cream in the scorching heat.

Kelley decided to snap a photo and upload it to Facebook, along with a description of what he witnessed. He likely had no idea that the picture of a simple act of love would gain so much traction.

“When I got my ice cream and pulled out, I realized that this elderly man beside me was sitting outside his car door, spoon feeding his wife ice cream who also looked in her late eighties,” the pastor wrote. “He draped a towel over her and slowly fed his bride in the 98 degree temperature. It was a beautiful display of love.”

TheJuly 24 Facebook post containing these comments as well as a simple photo that showed the elderly man feeding a woman believed to be his wife have already garnered 627,000 likes, nearly 267,000 shares and 46,800 comments.

Kelley seemed surprised to see the photo go viral, realizing on Tuesday just how widely the picture had circulated.

“Well, I woke up to 1,000 notifications and couple thousand friend requests,” he wrote in a separate Facebook post. “Haha.”

Major props to Kelley for realizing that he was witnessing a special moment and for sharing it with the masses. Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that hit home the most.
