There’s an update on the story surrounding the horrifying viral photo that showed a group of elderly nursing home residents sitting in waist-deep waters, with a new picture revealing that those women are now safe and sound.

CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca‏ posted an updated photo on Monday night that shows the women are “safe, warm and dry” after the original image of them sitting in water shocked the world.

The women have been relocated to a nearby facility in Alvin, Texas, and are in “good spirits,” according to multiple sources.

As Faithwire previously reported, the original photo, which was desperately tweeted out by the family of the owner of La Vita Bella nursing home in an effort to secure help for the elderly residents, showed the women seemingly knitting and carrying on with normal activities — all while the water levels continued to rise around them.

It was the viral photo, according to WFAA-TV, that led to the emergency rescue of those inside the home.

The hoopla reportedly started with a tweet from author Timothy McIntosh, who shared the image and wrote, “La vita Bella nursing home in Dickinson Texas is almost underwater with nursing home patients.”

McIntosh, whose mother-in-law, Trudy Lampson, reportedly owns the nursing home, later updated his followers with the news that the nursing home residents had been rescued.

The elderly individuals were airlifted from the scene just hours after he tweeted the photo and are now okay.

“They are all doing fine,” McIntosh told the AP, adding that Lampson had plans to evacuate but was told by local officials to stay where they were before the flood worsened. “The nursing home had to follow protocol because it’s a big ordeal to evacuate it. These ladies are on wheelchairs and most of them on oxygen.”
