The violent incident unfolded outside of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip during the Route 91 Harvest Festival. According to CNN, witnesses said that shots were fired from a high-up location at the hotel.

Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time.

Authorities believe that there is one suspect who has been killed; while police do not believe there are any shooters involved, a woman named Marilou Danley is being sought.

Danley is described by police as a “companion of the suspect.” She is reportedly the shooter’s roommate, according to CBS News.

Aldean reportedly stopped his performance after the loud banging sounds shocked the audience, as people could be heard yelling to fellow concert goers get down, Fox News reported.

Some said that it sounded as though hundreds of shots were fired, with one witness telling Fox that the shots seemed to come from a machine gun.

Mike Conk, one of the concert attendees, described a horrific scene in which his friend was shot three times and another person died in his arms.

“Kinda sounded like some fireworks going off. I think there was the first kinda volley, and then all of the sudden second volley. My buddy’s like ‘I just got hit, ya know.’ He got hit three times,” Conk told ABC News. “Then people started diving for the ground.

He added, “And it just continued. It was pretty much chaotic. Lots of people got hit.”

Conk and his injured friend then hid under the stage and, though they were able to get help, he said, “One guy ended up dying in my arms because he was bleeding.”

Aldean later took to Instagram to express his horror over what unfolded.

“Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe,” he wrote. “My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night.”
