Newborn Christian Michelle Harris will never meet her father after he was killed in Afghanistan last year while serving this country.

But in his absence, little Christian has an amazing network of paternal figures who love her deeply.

Army specialist Chris Harris died in November 2017, just days after he learned he was to be a father, WTVD-TV reported.

In March, the soldiers who fought alongside Harris gathered to commemorate his daughter’s birth, and the photos that resulted are hauntingly beautiful.

“Knowing that we could come home to a baby girl, that was awesome,” Sgt. Nathan Arthur Bagley said. “When everyone came home, that was the day she was born so that made it ten times better.”

The fallen soldier’s mother, Sue Kolean, said Christian looks just like Chris.

“When she was born, it was like I was looking at my own son,” Kolean said.

Christian has her father’s eyes, her mother, Britt Harris, said.

“It’s refreshing to see those blue eyes again,” Harris said of her daughter.

“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.” For those who have lost a soldier, everyday is our Memorial Day. Each day I mourn my Christopher but today we remember, honor, and show our pride for him (and all the others that have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country) together. Today we show unity in how we express our love. Today we think a little longer about those we’ve lost. Today we appreciate our freedoms a little more. Today has new meaning to me as I feel it on a much more personal level. And today I am even more proud of my husband. “Only the dead have seen the end of war.”

Before Christian was born, Britt Harris shared photos from her maternity shoot, which were taken in the spot where she and her husband wed.

"I choose to love you in silence, for in silence I find no rejection. I choose to love you in loneliness, for in loneliness no one owns you but me. I choose to adore you from a distance, for distance will shield me from pain. I choose to kiss you in the wind, for the wind is gentler than my lips. I choose to hold you in my dreams, for in my dreams, you have no end. -Rumi" … … … … … Spending the afternoon with this lovely soul in her happy place, the place she said "I Do" to her love, has brought us so much joy. We are so lucky to know you and can not wait to meet your sweet baby girl, for you both are pure light and love…our two favorite things. Many more to be delivered to you soon, sweet Mama. We just couldn't wait to share a few with you. Special thanks to @folkloreflora for the incredibly beautiful and fragrant floral crown, and to @olivetteasheville in Asheville for being so very lovely and holding so many precious memories. SWIPE FOR MORE! ✨???
