A Kentucky family is calling their family dog a hero after it stayed by the side of their 2-year-old daughter for nearly two days after she went missing. Charlee Campbell and the family dog, Penny, both went missing on Thursday morning from her grandmother’s house in the densely wooded area 30 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky.

“I won’t stop until she’s found,” Charlee’s mother Natalie Quick said as crews frantically searched for the youngster. “I don’t care if the dogs have searched and no scent. I don’t care. I’ll look until she comes back or something.”

“It just hurts when you can’t find your kid, and you’ve got 100 people out here, and they can’t find her either,” the devastated mother said.

It wasn’t until Friday evening, when Charlee’s grandmother, Beth Campbell, said she was crying out to God and looking out up to the hills behind her home, that she saw Penny sprinting toward her.

“God is listening to us. He is listening,”Campbell said she thought to herself when she saw her beloved granddaughter.

Miraculously, just a mile from Beth Campbell’s residence, Charlee had been found on the porch of a neighbor’s house.

“I’m convinced that God led her to our porch,” neighbor Wayne Brown told the Courier-Journal. “I don’t know why me. It could’ve been anyone. But no one will convince me otherwise — I believe with all my heart that it was the Lord, Jesus Christ, who brought her up on that porch and let her be found by us.”

The wonderful discovery hit close to home for Brown, whose brother went missing age 3 after wandering off from his house. Tragically, the little boy was later discovered drowned in a creek.

“There’s so much evil and so much wicked in this word, and people doing ungodly things to these kids,” Brown noted. “To find one safe and unharmed? I can’t express it There are no words, except God.”

“By the grace of God and everyone that helped, she’s [safe], and that’s all that matters,” Campbell said on Saturday outside her Lebanon Junction home. “… I can’t even explain how happy that I am that this baby is home because I love her more than anything in this world.”

Charlee was dangerously dehydrated when she was discovered, but recovered after a night being treated in hospital. Bullitt County Sheriff Tinnell said that a number of family members were interviewed in relation to her disappearance, but that no arrests have yet been made. Tinnell also said he believed the girl’s disappearance could be related to a custody dispute

“I’m just so happy she’s safe and alive,” Tinnell told WDRB-TV. “We’re blessed she’s healthy.”

Penny is also fine following the shocking ordeal — and has been getting some extra treats, Campbell said. “She is our life, our life revolves around her,” Campbell said of the Charlee. “… I just couldn’t imagine my life without her, and I don’t want to.”

“I honestly didn’t think we were going to find her,” Southeast Bullitt Fire Chief Erik Butler added. “It’s a miracle.”

Praise God that this precious little girl was found safe and well!
