“Double thumbs up! MRI and CTScans are clear,” Jill posted on Instagram Monday morning, next to a photo of Jim giving a double thumbs up. “Still working through major pain management, but PRAISE THE LORD, no evidence of cancer.”

Double thumbs up! MRI and CTScans are clear. Still working through major pain management, but PRAISE THE LORD, no evidence of cancer. And can I just say, Jim’s brothers are amazing! I’ve watched them stand with Jim in good times and bad. I’ve witnessed a love between siblings that is remarkable. What a blessing to be part of such an amazing family. Thank you Pat, Ray, Ed, Danny and Kevin for being an example of what a loving, devoted family should look like. Add your humor and faith to the mix and we have everything we need. Love you guys so much!

Before the family received the news that Kelly was cancer free, his daughter Erin posted a photo of 58-year-old Kelly at the hospital, along with a request for prayer.

“Another trip to NYC …Another CT scan and MRI …Another opportunity to pray and trust God …Please continue to pray for my dad’s healing. #KellyTough,” she wrote.

Five years ago Kelly was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma cancer, where he began his first battle to defeat the disease. He completed rounds of chemotherapy, even having part of his jaw removed, and was deemed cancer-free in September 2014.

But in March 2018, the former Buffalo Bills star announced that the cancer had returned. Kelly appealed for prayers on social media, adding that he was planning to fight it off just as he had the previous time.

“Hey, my surgery (for the removal of a tumor in his upper right jaw and reconstruction of his entire upper jaw) isn’t until the end of the month,” he shared at the time. “If the good Lord decides tomorrow’s my day, hey, I’m going out with a fish in one hand and a cup of beer in the other.”

Since March, Kelly has gone through multiple surgeries to remove the cancer, including the latest last month.

Jill Kelly has been active on Instagram throughout the process over the past couple of months, making sure to update fans and prayer warriors.

When Kelly was diagnosed back in March, Jill posted a touching message on Instagram, declaring that their faith in God that would get them through it.

“We are shocked, heartbroken, sad, angry, confused and just darn tired,” she wrote. “Yet despite how we feel, we KNOW that God is a promise maker and keeper. … The more life and heartbreak I experience, the more I realize that this is not the end of the story.”

The cancer is back. We are shocked, heartbroken, sad, angry, confused, and just darn tired. Yet, despite how we feel, we KNOW that God is a promise maker and keeper. He is who He says He is! He can do what He says He can do! We don’t have to understand His ways to trust His heart. The battle is HIS. (Exodus 14:14) We need you… In addition to our faith, family, and friends…we really need you and your prayer warrior friends to pray. We’re all in this together. THANK YOU! The more life and heartbreak I experience, the more I realize that this is not the end of the story. Life is temporary. And short. But eternity…is FOREVER. Because we know that our eternity is secure in Christ, we can trust God with every breath upon this earth.

Earlier this month, the Hall of Fame quarterback received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2018 ESPYS, an award given to someone who has shown tremendous endurance and valiant character.

In his acceptance speech, he spoke of the ups and downs of his life, including his bouts with cancer and the premature death of his young son, Hunter.

“My faith in the good Lord, that he has plans; he has plans for my life,” he said. “Through my son Hunter, we will make a difference.”

“Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up,” he said.

Please join Faithwire in continuing to pray for Jim Kelly as he recovers.
