Singer Demi Lovato has thanked God for keeping her “alive and well” after a drug overdose left the singer fighting for her life in hospital.

UPDATE: New Evidence Found on Hog Farm in Disappearance of Iowa Student Mollie Tibbetts

According to CNN, the pop megastar was rushed to hospital on July 24 following a suspected overdose. Lovato has been very open about her struggle with substance abuse. Fans became very concerned for her welfare when, earlier back in June, Lovato released a song entitled “Sober,” which revealed she had relapsed into her drug habit. But her message posted to Instagram yesterday paints a distinctly more positive picture.

“What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” she wrote in a post which has been liked over 4.5 million times.

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she continued. “To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.”

Lovato added that without the support of her friends and family, as well as the medical professionals who have cared for her, she “wouldn’t be here writing this.” The musician stated that she now needed time to “heal and focus” on her sobriety.

“I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting,” she concluded.

Many fans and well-wishers posted to Lovato’s Instagram following her positive message. “Demi keep fighting we truly love you,” one person commented. “You are amazing and loved Demi, you are strong and that’s why lots of people look up to you, like me!” another added. “I’m glad that you’re okay now, after this hard week.”

Pray for Lovato as she continues to recover from her ordeal.
