Last week a Palestinian baby received a life-saving heart transplant from a Jewish child, an historic moment which marked the first time a Palestinian child had ever received a transplant from a Jew, The Daily Wire reported.
A week prior to the transplant, an Israeli family lost their 1-year-old to a chronic disease, and agreed to donate their child’s heart to a needy recipient. Little did they know that only a few short hours later, a Palestinian child name Musa would become that candidate.

Musa, now recovering from the invasive procedure, is still in critical condition after undergoing the transplant by Dr. David Mishaly, chief surgeon in the Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery Unit at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv hospital.
“There were several miracles associated with this complicated surgery,” Dr. Mishaly told The Times of Israel. “There is no such thing in the Palestinian Authority as an ‘organ donor or organ waiting list.’ While organ donor and waiting lists exist in Israel, there was no Israeli baby on the waiting list when the Palestinian baby, who is called Musa, was brought to Sheba in very critical condition. By a twist of fate, a miracle, Musa, was able to receive the new heart from the Jewish child, whose parents had agreed a few hours earlier to donate the heart.”
Musa was born with a condition which caused tumors to encompass his heart. He was originally treated at Ramallah in the West Bank before being sent to Sheba’s Safra Children’s Hospital, where doctors assessed him and determined he needed a heart transplant.
In the wake of the historical surgery, Dr. Mishaly called the Sheba Medical Center “an island, an oasis of peace, where healing is the priority and everyone, regardless of who they are is treated equally, with dignity and respect.”

In a barrier-breaking gesture, Musa’s grandmother stated that her family “would like to meet the family of the Jewish child in the near future and thank them for their generosity.”
The Simon Wiesenthal Center commented on the event in a Twitter post, claiming that despite the widespread coverage of Palestinian-Israeli division, this moment is truly representative of Israeli values.
