Former HGTV star and home design maven Joanna Gaines shared a startling discovery over the weekend that strengthened her faith in an unlikely way.

‘A Great Fit’: Chip and Joanna Gaines Invite Texas Church to Meet on Their Property

Gaines described in an Instagram post Saturday the scene that unfolded after her daughter Emmie, 8, scribbled a note on her bathroom counter using purple marker.

“Walked into Emmie’s bathroom this morning and my heart stopped for a second when I thought she had sharpied all over her vanity,” she wrote.

But after her initial shock, Gaines said she “took a moment and really read what she wrote…”:

Walked into Emmie's bathroom this morning and my heart stopped for a second when I thought she had sharpied all over her vanity. And then I took a moment and really read what she wrote and thought, "Well that isn't the worst thing to be permanent". Then I touched it and realized it was erasable?. I stared at her question and loved the thought of it and that that’s how she talks to God. May her faith always stay childlike and may I remember what she seems to already know. That God is the most relational and the most kind, and always near. ❤️

“Hi God what are you doing?” the note read.

“‘Well that isn’t the worst thing to be permanent,’” Gaines thought to herself, only to touch the message and realize “it was erasable.”

With the mini-crisis averted, the mother of five took a minute to ponder her daughter’s action, and was struck with this beautiful insight:

“I stared at her question and loved the thought of it and that that’s how she talks to God. May her faith always stay childlike and may I remember what she seems to already know. That God is the most relational and the most kind, and always near.”

Chip and Joanna Gaines have always been open about their Christian faith. The “Fixer Upper” stars recently invited a church congregation to meet on their Texas business premises.

The couple own “Magnolia Market at the Silos,”a vast stretch of property in Waco, where they sell their signature interior design pieces. On Sundays, however, the DIY paradise will be transformed into a house of worship for a Waco congregation, Church Under the Bridge, while its former location is under construction.
