A man who police believe was attempting to kidnap a woman by forcing her into his car had his plans swiftly thwarted when he ran into a karate class. The incident took place Thursday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, after the woman managed to break free from the grip of the assailant, before dashing into Bushiken Karate Charlotte Dojo, with the criminal hot on her heels. Fortunately, head karate instructor, Randall Ephraim, was waiting for him.

“There were still some kids in the dojo being picked up by parents and a couple of adult students cleaning up when a young lady came through our doors and stated that someone was trying to harm her,” Ephraim told CNN.
“Shortly afterward, a big male entered the building,” he said. “Not knowing what he wanted, I assumed he was inquiring about classes. I asked how I could assist him and he stated that he was there for the lady. She insisted that she did not know him and [he] tried to kidnap her.”

Realizing the severity of the situation, the instructor firmly stated that the man must leave immediately, but he refused. Then, most unwisely, the would-be kidnapper attempted to shove Ephraim out the way and grab the woman.

“I then went into action defending myself and got him out of the dojo,” Ephraim calmly noted. “Once outside he attempted to attack again and was dealt with accordingly.”

The instructor held the man in a restraint until police arrived. As the assailant was arrested, he attempted to assault the responding police officers too. The suspect has since been taken to hospital for his injuries.

Many have praised Ephraim for his brave and courageous actions.

“Thank you for your skills and protecting that woman!” one person posted on his Instagram.

“Ephraim, you are a gentleman and a true hero,” another added.
