It is now 2019, and Planned Parenthood continues to serve as America’s leading abortion provider, performing about one in every three abortions that take place nationwide. Its newly released 2017-2018 annual report states that 332,757 abortions were performed in Planned Parenthood facilities last year, up from the 321,384 figure stated in its previous 2016-2017 report.
And while the federally funded organization continues to advertise the watered-down statistic claiming abortion comprises only around 3 percent of its services (which include everything from handing out condoms, to pregnancy tests, to urinary tract infection treatments), the numbers cited in their report speak for themselves. Abortion remains Planned Parenthood’s primary and most lucrative “service” the group provides at its 357 “health” clinics across the country.
In the year ending June 30, 2018, Planned Parenthood raked in $1.67 billion, crushing last year’s record-setting number of $1.46 billion.
In a letter published along with the latest report, Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen lays out her vision for the abortion giant moving forward. Wen, who joined Planned Parenthood back in October, makes it clear that the organization has no plans to slow down in the coming years.
“Our North Star is serving our patients,” she writes. “But it’s not enough to provide care to our patients, if they cannot access that care. That’s why we will fight with everything we have to protect health care access, because too often reproductive health care and women’s health care are singled out, stigmatized, and attacked.”
Wen makes it clear that the organization’s goal moving forward is to “expand” its reach, working with public officials to “enact laws that protect and expand access to reproductive care.” She explicitly states that every service Planned Parenthood provides “from birth control to cancer screenings to abortion” is “standard medical care” and therefore a “fundamental human right.”
Wen goes on to claim that despite efforts by those who would like to see the abortion provider close its doors for good, Planned Parenthood will triumph because it is on the side of “truth.”
“But we’ve got fundamental truth on our side: that your body is your own,” she notes. “If it’s not, you cannot be truly free or equal.”
If Wen’s brazen TV interviews and writings haven’t done so thus far, her latest letter coupled with the new report should make it clear that Planned Parenthood poses a real threat to America. Though the group is still under federal investigation for the illegal trafficking of fetal body parts, Planned Parenthood continues to receive over $550 million in taxpayer money. The latest fiscal report should serve as a further push to urge Congress to defund abortion mogul Planned Parenthood once and for all.
