The incident occurred as a group of Christian construction workers was building a government hospital in Kutulo, Mandera County, when news came through that Islamic terror grou[ Al-Shabaab was on its way to execute all the Christians.

According to local sources, the Muslims working at the same site immediately ushered the Christians away from the area, ensuring that they reached safe refuge.

Not stopping there, the Muslim workers then went face-to-face with the gunmen as they arrived. “They confronted the gunmen who proceeded to the site and failed to get what they wanted. [The attackers] opened fire but no one was injured before they escaped,” north-eastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik told reporters,” according to Premier News.

According to Christian persecution watchdog, Open Doors, the act of heroism was a “show of solidarity from locals.”

“The area feels more like Somalia than Kenya and usually is a very hostile place for Christians,” said an anonymous worker affiliated with the charity. “Most of the Believers who live here came here from other areas of the country for work and some for ministry. But they are treated like unwanted outsiders and face a lot of harassment and the continuous threat of targeted al-Shabaab attacks.”

The worker “thanked the Lord” that “another bloodbath was prevented.”

“Pray that this kind of action will become the new norm in this area,” they added. “Pray for the protection over those who took this bold move.”
