A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for a woman who was left with life-changing injuries following a brutal car wreck.
Anna Bindert not only sustained horrific bodily trauma during the October 31 collision, including a ruptured spleen and the severing of both legs above the knee — she also lost her unborn baby.
“This accident cost us both of Anna’s legs, her spleen, our unborn child, and will forever change our future,” wrote Anna’s husband, Davy Crockett, on Facebook. “Anna is a fighter and while she has yet to come fully out of sedation I have no doubt that Anna will fight her hardest to get through these early stages and hopefully improve to the point that she regains her independence.”
Crockett asked supporters to “continue sending prayers” as Anna recovers.
A GoFundMe page set up to help cover “unexpected expenses that will affect Anna’s immediate family in the weeks and months to come.”
“If you cannot donate at this time, we ask that you please pray for her healing, for her husband’s continued strength, and for her daughter LouAna’s courage and faith that her mommy will be okay,” the page reads.
So far, just over $17,000 has been raised.
On Saturday, Anna’s sister, Christa, posted a short update on Anna’s condition.
“Anna has not woken up yet,” she wrote. “Today was probably the second hardest day of my life as I had to leave her and fly back home to work next week.”
A previous update posted to the GoFundMe page on November 8 noted that Anna was due to undergo surgery in order to “close her amputations.”
“She still has still not woken up yet, but the night nurse said she opened her eyes a couple times last night when she said her name. I’m not sure if it’s reflexive, but it is positive progress,” the update added.
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Anna, 27, was heading north on Interstate 380 towards Cedar Falls, Iowa, when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into oncoming traffic.
CBS-2 Iowa reported that the two other people involved in the collision were transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threating injuries.
Do pray for Anna and her loved ones at this immensely difficult time.
