MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is showing Americans how to come together just hours after one of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s former spokespersons wrote in a since deleted tweet that she hoped President Donald Trump died following his positive COVID-19 test results.

“God bless the president and the first lady,” Maddow wrote Friday morning, asking her followers to “pray for their speedy and complete recovery.”

God bless the president and the first lady. If you pray, please pray for their speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.

This virus is horrific and merciless — no one would wish its wrath on anyone.

We must get its spread under control. Enough.

Maddow is being roundly praised for her well wishes for the president and first lady Melania Trump. One conservative commentator, Robby Starbuck, described the MSNBC anchor’s words as “the classiest tweet I’ve seen from the left,” thanking her for “doing the right thing.”

President Trump and First Lady Melania Test Positive for COVID-19, Americans Offer Prayers

While some, like former Clinton staffer Zara Rahim, have wished for Trump’s demise, and others, including radical left activist Linda Sarsour and Christian recording artist Chance the Rapper, have suggested the president’s diagnosis is a conspiracy, there are others on the left wishing the first couple well.

Among those well wishers is Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.

Doug and I join Joe Biden and Dr. Biden in wishing President Trump and the First Lady a full and speedy recovery. We’re keeping them and the entire Trump family in our thoughts.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a former competitor for the Democratic presidential nomination, also sent her “best wishes and aloha” to the entire Trump family.

My husband Abraham and I offer our best wishes and aloha to President @realDonaldTrump and the First Lady @FLOTUS and praying for their speedy recovery. We also send our best wishes to Ivanka, Tiffany, Donald Trump Jr., Eric, and Barron during this difficult time. #TrumpHasCovid

Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, there is only one right response to learning the president of the United States and his wife have the coronavirus: to wish them well and to pray for their swift recovery.

Kudos to those who have done that.
