New Survey Shows BLM Support Down, Police Support Up

Despite its prominence in the media ever since last summer, when cities across the U.S. experienced a seemingly unending parade of protests and violent riots, the Black Lives Matter movement is, according to a new survey, failing to engender the trust of both black and white Americans.

USA Today published a poll Friday, revealing that trust in the leftist organization Black Lives Matter has fallen to 50%.

75% of Black people and 42% of white people express trust in Black Lives Matter, while 77% of white people and 42% of Black people trust local police. But for both, trust in BLM has fallen and police has risen since June.https://t.co/0vNjG02EIm

Trust in police has risen to 69%, according to the USA Today/Ipsos poll.

However, as you might expect, the U.S. remains deeply divided along ethnic lines. Seventy-five percent of black people and 42% of white people trust Black Lives Matter while 77% of white people and 47% of black people trust local police forces.

It is worth noting, though, that support for Black Lives Matter has fallen more among black people (a 12-point drop) than it has among white people (an 8-point drop). Similarly, trust in local police has risen by 14 points and 12 points among black and white Americans, respectively.

John Sexton explained the downshift in support for Black Lives Matter this way:

In the initial reaction, support for BLM basically meant you were against what happened [with George Floyd last May]. But within a few months, it became clear that support for BLM also came with riots, looting and arson. A lot of people who had sided with BLM over the video, pulled back their support over those scenes of chaos. Support for BLM questions often come down to ‘do you like what you’re seeing on TV right now’ and not much more than that.

Again, the most interesting part of the new polling is the fact that black support has also dropped. That wasn’t true last summer and fall, even when white support for BLM was dropping.

In addition to being so closely linked to all kinds of violence, and the initiative to “defund the police,” the Black Lives Matter movement has faced intense criticism for its leftist foundations, namely its intent to break up the nuclear family structure.

After facing so much criticism, the official Black Lives Matter website removed its oft-visited “what we believe” page in September of last year.

The deleted section of the site stated that the mission of Black Lives Matter was, in part, to “disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure,” “dismantle the patriarchal practice that requires mothers to work ‘double shifts’ so that they can mother in private even as they participate in public justice work,” as well as “foster a queer-affirming network” by “freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking, or rather, the believe that all in the world are heterosexual.”

One of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement has made no bones about hiding the radical organization’s intentions. She acknowledged at one point that she and a BLM cohort are “trained Marxists.”

Hawk Newsome, a Black Lives Matter leader in New York City, refused on several occasions to condemn violence during an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum. Instead, he told the anchor, he wants to “burn down the system” if the government and society at large “doesn’t give us what we want.”

“If this country doesn’t give us what we want,” Newsome said, “then we will burn down the system and replace it. … I could be speaking figuratively; I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation.”

He went on to tell MacCallum that his goal is “black sovereignty,” which is to say supremacy, “by any means necessary.”
