California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced during his State of the State address Tuesday night that California is “not going back to normal” after the COVID-19 pandemic because it “was never good enough.”

“When this pandemic ends — and it will end soon — we’re not going back to normal,” the leftist governor warned. “Normal was never good enough. Normal accepts inequity.”

Even though he acknowledged the “exhausting” nature of unending government restrictions and mandates — of which there has been no shortage — Newsom embraced the cultural shift that has occurred over the past year.

Mediaite columnist John Ziegler responded, “They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. COVID is being used to instill socialism via fascism. This was thought to be a conspiracy theory in 2020, and yet, it could not be more real.”

Newsom’s speech comes as the organizers for the campaign to recall his governorship have collected more than 1.95 million signatures — well above the 1.5 million required to trigger a recall election. The movement has largely been in response to parents’ anger with California schools’ refusal to reopen for in-person learning. Additionally, Californians are frustrated with the progressive governor’s repeated violations of the economically crippling lockdown orders he has implemented.

On Tuesday, Newsom dismissed those voters entirely.

“I remain determined,“ he said. “And I just want you to know, we’re not going to change course just because of a few naysayers and doomsdayers. So the California critics out there who are promoting partisan political power grabs with outdated prejudices and rejecting everything that makes California truly great, we say this, we will not be distracted from getting shots in arms and our economy booming again. This is a fight for California’s future.”
