Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is projecting panic even as multiple vaccines for COVID-19 are moving quickly.
Nearly 30% of Americans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot, which gives some level of protection. And, as of Monday, 73% of senior citizens have received their first doses.

Nevertheless, she warned, the U.S. could be facing “impending doom.”
“I’m speaking today not necessarily as your CDC director, and not only as your CDC director, but as a wife, as a mother, as a daughter, to ask you to just please hold on a little while longer,” Walensky said, after claiming to have gone off script. “I so badly want to be done. I know you all so badly want to be done. We’re just almost there, but not quite yet. And so, I’m asking you to just hold on a little longer, to get vaccinated when you can, so that all of those people that we all love will still be here when this pandemic ends.”
She went on to say she believes the U.S. could see another surge in infections similar to the spike Americans saw last summer.
The U.S. is now vaccinating nearly three million people every single day.
Several states have begun lifting their harshest COVID-19 restrictions and, in Texas, where, three weeks ago, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) lifted the statewide mask mandate, the number of cases has dropped to a record low.
Following Abbott’s decision to lift the mask mandate, President Joe Biden began name-calling, describing the move as “Neanderthal thinking.”
On Monday, the president also urged states to stop any attempt to reopen their economies.
