Police officers in Montgomery, Illinois, rescued two people Monday who were trapped inside a burning home.

Harrowing bodycam footage shows the officers risking their safety to ensure others made it out alive, as two victims dropped themselves from a second-floor window just in time, WLS-TV reported.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office shared the video on social media, noting in the caption that the fire broke out on Jan. 31 around 12:49 a.m.

Officers with the Montgomery Police Department and Oswego Fire Protection District responded to the fire and had to act quickly.

“Before the arrival of fire personnel, Montgomery PD Officers attempted to make entry at the front of the house but were unable to due to smoke and flames,” the description read. “Kendall County Sheriff’s Deputies Giannotti and Mielke heard calls for help from the rear of the residence and rushed towards them.”

That’s when the officers discovered two people were on the home’s second floor. Flames raged as the officers yelled for them to jump out of the window, with an officer breaking one person’s fall.

The officers’ assistance helped save lives and helped “ensure a horrible tragedy did not occur,” according to Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird.

Harrowing video shows the two victims jumping from a window as flames raged around them:

“Our deputies are always ready and willing to respond and assist in any public safety situation,” Baird said. “This is another great example of the selfless actions and great care for our community that the men and women of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office demonstrate daily.”

He added, “We, as a community, are lucky to have all of the first responders who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to help others in their times of need.”

Baird later told WLS-TV he and all those involved are grateful for how the situation ended.

“We’re really blessed that everybody made it out OK,” he said.
