The release of the fifth season of “The Chosen” — which earned a collective $60 million at the box office in its three-part debut — is slated to hit Prime Video next month.
Ahead of the June 15 drop date, the biblical series’ creator and director, Dallas Jenkins, released a trailer teasing what’s to come in the latest episodes of the popular show about the life and times of Jesus.
The intense trailer begins with Judas Iscariot (Luke Dimyan) betraying Jesus and progresses through to the Son of God (Jonathan Roumie) raging against the moneychangers in the temple. It concludes with Jesus and the disciples gathered around a table for the Last Supper.
Its release on Prime Video follows an eight-episode debut in theaters, which premiered in three parts, beginning March 26.
According to season five’s synopsis, the latest episodes follow “Jesus’ triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world. Welcomed as a king into Jerusalem, he boldly confronts the corrupt merchants, sparking a chain of events that shakes the city. While religious leaders scramble to silence his growing influence, Jesus shares one last meal with his closest followers. But in the shadows, Judas makes a deal that seals both their fates. In a tale of power, faith and betrayal that echoes through time – one man’s ultimate sacrifice becomes humanity’s greatest story.”

Speaking to CBN News, Jenkins said each season of “The Chosen” has been spiritually challenging to him and his wife, Amanda.
“Every season, my wife Amanda says, ‘We’re not free from the lessons of the actual content itself,'” he said at the premiere of the latest season. “Season four was a lot about suffering; well, we went through a lot of that when we were filming season four, and I think it made us better filmmakers, better storytellers, and, hopefully, more Christlike.”
