A good Samaritan is receiving praise from police officers in Ocala, Florida, after he jumped into action to help a pregnant woman who fell victim to an attempted carjacking.

Army veteran Shane Spicer was recently waiting for his coffee at a local Starbucks when a man came running toward the drive-thru line. Spicer told WSVN-TV he immediately knew something wasn’t right.

What he didn’t know at the time was that police were in pursuit of the suspect, identified as Michael Prouty, for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing someone’s car.

Prouty crashed that vehicle and reportedly took off on foot to evade authorities — and that’s when the suspect made his way over to Starbucks and came into Spicer’s sights.

“Sitting in line, I just kinda noticed this dude sprinting up,” he told 352 Today. “By the look of him, he was a little out of place at 11 a.m. sprinting in downtown Ocala.”

When Spicer saw the accused allegedly attempting to carjack the pregnant victim, he took decisive action and got into the car to halt the potentially dangerous situation.

“I’m going to get you, buddy,” Spicer said. “You’re not going anywhere now. You crossed the line.”

The hero made good on that threat, too, chasing the accused down, stopping him from jumping a fence, and holding him until police caught up.

Spicer said it’s important to “watch out for” others and help when people can.

“I would just hope that someone would do the same for my family,” he told WSVN-TV.

He told 352 Local his penchant for assisting was likely rooted in his previous military service, calling it an “old instinct” that was simply reignited.

“I guess to like help from being in the military and stuff,” Spicer said. “Some things never really go away.”
