Pastor Shane Idleman of Westside Christian Fellowship in Lancaster, California, offered up a warning to Christians to remember that the gospel generally isn’t considered “popular” in contemporary culture, while also chastising churches where “lukewarm living is bring encouraged.”

Idleman said in a sermon earlier this month that there’s a big difference between a church being “popular” and “powerful,” adding that the size of a church (i.e. popularity) might not have much at all to do with its level of power and sway.

“You can’t gauge a church by attendance alone,” he said.

Check out Idleman’s full warning to churches and Christians, alike, below:

He also recently excoriated Christians for their laziness in a separate sermon.
